Kimberly Pearson has been serving in the healthcare industry both as a Registered Nurse and Manager/Administrator for over 40 years in various settings holding progressive management, leadership, and operational roles in multiple states.  She recently served as the Deputy Agency Director for the Orange County Health Care Agency -- Correctional Health Services division since 2010.  

 

With an initial education as a Registered Nurse, her clinical experience includes Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care, and Flight medicine.  Additionally, she served as the Emergency Medical Services Manager for the largest EMS system in the state of Illinois, overseeing 18 counties and 25 hospitals in EMS services and Disaster Preparedness.  She directed and managed the first Disaster Preparedness Mobile Team in Illinois immediately following 9/11 with the team being actively deployed three times within the first year.  Additionally, she has held roles of Program Director for a Critical Care Flight program, Practice Manager for a state-wide Hematology/Oncology practice in the state of New Mexico, and multiple consulting roles providing healthcare opinions for hospital administrations and defense opinions in medical malpractice and wrongful death cases for various law firms. 

Her recent role as the Deputy Agency Director for Correctional Health Services included executive administrative oversight for Adult Correctional Health Services, Juvenile Health Services, and the Orange County Conditional Release program for mentally ill offenders.  There are approximately 60,000 individuals moving through the Orange County adult and juvenile systems annually, with the system being one of the largest in the country.   She was responsible for a staff of 350+ healthcare professionals from various disciplines and managed an annual budget in excess of $71M.  Her responsibilities included clinical operational oversight, strategic planning, regulatory compliance, management of legal/risk issues, contract management, and labor relations.  She also engaged in inter-agency collaborations with Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE), Department of Justice (DOJ), Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), and various State licensing entities. 

Ms. Pearson recently served a three-year term on the Board of Directors with the Academy of Correctional Health Professionals.  She also previously served on the Board for the American Correctional Health Services Association – CA/NV chapter (ACHSA).  She has been an Accreditation Surveyor for the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC), as well as currently holds certification from the Commission as a Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP) in good standing.

 

Ms. Pearson currently owns and operates KP Consulting, LLC, which is a correctional healthcare consulting entity.   She has contractual agreements with various correctional healthcare companies and agencies to provide consultation and analysis regarding correctional health operations, policy and procedures, regulatory compliance, risk management, and litigation management / expert witness services. 

Ms. Pearson has been a conference speaker at various correctional healthcare conferences, and she provides editorial review for journal and textbook manuscripts for several healthcare publishing companies.  She also received national recognition for her professional practice in 2016 when she was awarded the Excellence in Executive Leadership / Nursing Excellence award from Nurse.Com.

Ms. Pearson is a holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health Care, as well as dual Master’s degrees in Business Administration and Healthcare Administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.
